Rants of a runner 🏃‍♀️who writes ✍️

A run never fails you. I wish we could say the same about a writing session.

Imagine, if writing was as straightforward as running…

There’d never be ‘what to write’ moments

There’s never been a day when I had to scratch my brains right before running, “What am I running today?”, “Am I doing a 5k today or a 10k?”, “Is it an easy run or a speed training session?”. I blindly follow my marathon-training chart taped inside my closet.

The first version would be the final version

You never need to edit a run, unlike your article. I almost always don’t like my first draft. It goes through multiple edits plus sleep-on-it versions before it’s final and ready to publish.

The audience won’t be a concern

This is pathetically self-centered but true. You run for yourself. You write for others. If running was like writing, it would be liberating.

Each session would be a mental recharge

A deep focussed writing session drains your mental energy reserves whereas a run recharges your mental reserves.

Done when it’s done

Running stats don’t change. You are done as soon as you’re done. It’s an entirely different game with an article. Like a little child, it needs constant love and attention. Edit the title, change the image, add to a publication, etc. You’re never done.
